Position Description: The System Administrator Specialist will assist in maintaining the integrity and security of UNIX servers and systems which support the various units of the organization. This task includes access information systems within the security guidelines of the enterprise; the UNIX servers and applications are operational; and to keep the UNIX staff motivated to provide quality service and support. The System Administrator specialist maintains the enterprise’s UNIX servers and educates all professional staff and operating personnel in the use of the UNIX platform, both as a server and a client server operating environment. The System Administrator Specialist is a key technical resources for the organization, providing advice, training and technical support for various projects. In addition, the System Administrator works closely with professional technical staff in the IT management team in evaluating current systems and making decisions on future development. Required Technical Expertise: Proven experience in UNIX server based operating systems (Solaris, Linux). Proven experience in documenting daily technical logs and using server technical manuals. Certification in Solaris (Entry Level, Professional), certification in Linux (Administrator, Professional). Position Requirements: Minimum experience of 10 years in areas related to Server Systems Administration and IT operations with minimum of 5 years proven experience supervisory experience in UNIX environment. BS or BA degree in computer science, computer engineering or equivalent degree. Requires Unix Systems Administration experience in at least one of the following UNIX: Sun or Linux. Experience must be concurrent and include basic working knowledge of UNIX, send mail, printing, DNS, network configuration on local hosts, NFS, plus shell programming experience. Possess a strong background in the UNIX OS, preferably with UNIX server administration. Proficiency with UNIX (e.g. Solaris/Linux), Windows 98, 2000 and XP, and Mac OS X operating systems; understanding of the administration of SQL database servers, and secure web servers with mod ssl; knowledge of Perl and CGI scripting; working knowledge of shell scripting (i.e. C shell); knowledge of standard backup infrastructures; UNIX system and program installation, compilation and configuration; system-level security procedures, familiarity with cryptography tools (e.g. secure shell, gpg/pgp); experience maintaining servers for standard Internet services such as DNS, NFS, DHCP, Samba, mail, web, LPR printing and FTP service.
